MANAUS – The data from the continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNAD), released this Friday, 13, by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), point out that the State of Amapá is the only one in the country that presents a real drop in the unemployment rate, in relation to the calculation of the unemployment rate for the 1st quarter of 2022.

The state went from 17.5% in the fourth quarter of 2021 to 14.2% in the first quarter of this year, resulting in a reduction of 3.3 percentage points. According to the survey, all other states remained stable in relation to the national average of 11.1%.

But it is worth pointing out that, although the region has reduced the unemployment rate, the reduction does not mean the direct creation of new jobs. The IBGE even informs that in December 2021 there were 419 thousand employed Amapa people against 388 thousand in March this year.

“This drop, however, is not due to the increase in the number of occupied people, but the lower pressure of people without work seeking occupation in the state. There was a drop of 7.3% in the number of people in the labor force and an increase of 10.4% in the contingent outside the force,” states the coordinator of Work and Income of IBGE, Adriana Beringuy to the official page of the Institute.

The state also has the highest proportion of self-employed workers, 35.9%, exceeding the national average of 26.5%. In the 4th quarter of 2021, people employed in the private sector with a signed contract totaled 71 thousand, in the first quarter of this year, it went up to 76 thousand employees in this format.
