MANAUS – The Amazonian artists Gabriella Dias and Nando Montenegro joined to do reinterpretations of Brazilian music classics, written and performed by Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, with the show “Gilcaê”. The singers relive an era considered important for the music industry in Brazil, and give an opportunity for those who didn’t live through Gilberto Gil and Caetano’s heyday to get to know better the songs sung by these artists.

For those who want to watch and listen closely to the musical interpretations, the next presentation of the duo will be this Friday, 20, at 9pm, at the Barravento Cultural Space, in the Praça 14 neighborhood, South Zone of Manaus. “The repertoire was made with great care for the alignment of voices and the creation of dynamic for the show. Nando worked very well in the arrangements for guitar, since it was a show only with this instrument and we tried to explore the filling of spaces with harmonies of voices and guitar”, says Gabriella.

Inspiration

The idea of doing re-recordings came from the singers’ unusual taste and was inspired by the song ‘Esotérico’, almost always present in Gil and Caetano’s repertoire, and played by the duo. “We are friends, and for some time now we have been thinking about partnerships, due to our musical identification with each other. Then some friends told us that our voices matched. Among the songs we liked there were several by Gil and Caetano, and that was when I decided to make this special, since it was an old desire of mine. I even had the name, but it was on a specific night that a friend of ours put his faith in us and then we started to put together the repertoire,” reveals the singer.

The idea worked so well that, according to the artist, the idea of an intimate presentation took on a positive proportion. “I remember that we started selling tickets on a Monday and on Tuesday they were already sold out, and that was only through our Instagram. We looked for a bigger space to receive our public. Everything in a matter of less than two weeks, because the show is also a farewell, since Nando is moving to SP in early June, going after greater opportunities for the artistic career” recalls Gabriella.

Public

For the singer, the greatest reward is to be able to experience moments of good music close to the public. The Amazonian singer says that, although she didn’t expect the repercussion, the presentations served as a thermometer pointing out the reception and the desire of the local audience for presentations of this kind.

“We were very happy with the repercussion; the repertoire was designed to attract the public that is most passionate about Brazilian music in its raw state. It is something hard to find, and I believe that the public is not used to this kind of experience, which proposes musical appreciation and not just a show as entertainment”, he concludes.
