Bolsonaro declares R$2.3 million in assets, but spent R$16.5 million on travel during his term as president

MANAUS – The president of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro (PL), registered his candidacy for reelection, for the post of head of the Federal Executive, however what drew attention was the declaration of assets of the president, amounting to R$ 2,3 million. The data was published this Wednesday, 10, and is available for consultation on the website of the Superior Electoral Court.

Among the assets is the declaration of a land motor vehicle, which can be a truck, car, motorcycle, among others, worth R$26,500.00. In a brief survey, the AMAZON AGENCY found that the cars in this price range have the year of manufacture between 2007 and 2016, however, being from the second buyer.

In the real estate segments, the president declared four houses in the amounts of R$ 400,000.00, R$ 603,803.54, R$ 98,500.00 and R$ 40,000.00, and an apartment of R$ 240,930.00.

Bolsonaro’s main competitor in this year’s elections, former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva declared to TSE an estimated patrimony of R$ 7,423,725.78. The amount is distributed in assets such as bank deposits, vehicles, land, investments, apartments, and others.

Permanent vacation

Parallel to the declaration are Bolsonaro’s expenses as President of the Republic. In almost four years of his mandate, the president spent R$16.5 million on trips alone, according to a secret audit conducted by the Federal Audit Court (TCU) and published by Veja in June this year.

The audit made in the invoices of corporate cards, in Bolsonaro management, also pointed out the spending of about R$ 21 million with the secret expenses considered most significant, between January 2019 and March.

In December 2021, while the country was already dealing with the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Bolsonaro spent a vacation with his family in Santa Catarina. The trip was marked by Jet Ski rides and several trips to amusement parks. The vacation cost almost R$ 900,000 to the public coffers, according to information provided by the General Secretariat of the Presidency.

Also according to the survey, the president traveled 11 times to the Forte dos Andradas, in Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo, three times to Forte Marechal Luz, in Santa Catarina, and once to the base of Aratu, in Bahia.

Since the beginning of his mandate, three and a half years ago, Bolsonaro has already accumulated at least 15 mini vacations, including holidays and vacations. Most of the trips were to the beach, on the coasts of Santa Catarina, São Paulo, and Bahia.

Privileged food

Since Bolsonaro’s inauguration, until March 2021, R$ 2.6 million were spent exclusively for the purchase of food for the official residences of Bolsonaro and Vice President Hamilton Mourão. The data were disclosed by Veja, through a secret audit of the Federal Audit Court (TCU). The purchases were paid for with the corporate card linked to the Federal Government’s Administration Secretariat.

While the Brazilian population counts the cents to make monthly purchases with the minimum wage of R$ 1,211, 00, the average purchases of Bolsonaro and Mourão total just over R$ 96,300 per month. However, the TCU document does not detail which foods are purchased at the presidential residences.
