MANAUS (AM) – The Minister Reynaldo Soares da Fonseca of the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) granted an injunction, on Friday, 18, on a temporary basis, for the release of defendants Joabson Agostinho Gomes and his wife Jordana Azevedo Freire, owners of the group Victoria Supermarkets in Manaus. The couple is suspected of ordering the murder of Army Sergeant Lucas Guimarães, who was shot to death in September last year. To CENARIUM MAGAZINE, the State Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (Seap) informed that it is waiting to be notified to comply with the decision.

The case should be passed on to the Court of Justice of Amazonas (TJAM), which should issue the notification determining the release. “The decision of the STJ passes to the Justice of Amazonas, which notifies Seap so that it can fulfill the request. So far, has not arrived (the notification),” clarified the communication advisory folder.

The arrest of the couple happened on February 9 this year, during the third phase of Operation Lucas 8:17, launched by the Specialized Homicide and Kidnappings Police (DEHS) of the Civil Police of Amazonas (PC-AM). This Saturday, 19, Seap said the defendant Joabson Gomes serves prison in the Provisional Detention Center Male (CDPM 1), located at kilometer 8 of BR-174, while Jordana Freire is under house arrest.

Together, Joabson and Jordana were arrested in September 2021, but the STJ granted a request from the couple’s defense for them to answer in freedom for the death of Sergeant Lucas Guimarães.

The case

The death of the sergeant was on September 1, 2021, in the neighborhood Praça 14 de Janeiro, in the south of the capital of Amazonas. He was killed with three shots to the head as he was closing the coffee shop he owned. Lucas was rescued and taken to Santa Julia Hospital, but died.

According to the investigations, the police identified that Lucas Guimarães and Jordana Freire had an extramarital relationship since December 2020. For the investigators, Joabson discovered the betrayal through his wife’s phone. After the discovery the husband of the businesswoman began to make threats against Lucas and to commit domestic violence against his wife.

According to the police, besides Joabson and Jordana, Romário Vinente Bentes, manager of the Vitória supermarket, Silas Ferreira da Silva, suspected of shooting the sergeant, Kamylla Tavares da Silva, Kayandra Pereira de Castro and Katyane Castro Pinheiro are also suspected of involvement in the crime.
