MANAUS – The Crisis Committee, coordinated by the Federal Police (PF) of Amazonas to investigate the case of the disappearance of indigenist Bruno Pereira and the British journalist Dom Phillips, reported, through a note, on the morning of Thursday, 9, that an expert is conducting the survey of a possible genetic material found in the seized boat with the suspect Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, the “Pelado”, 41 years.

Amarildo was arrested in the act, on Tuesday, 9, for possession of restricted use ammunition. The Federal Police itself, in a press conference held on Wednesday afternoon, informed that until then there was no evidence linking the suspect to the disappearance.

The investigation of what is being classified so far as possible genetic material is being done by a professional from the Department of Technical and Scientific Police (DPTC), coordinated by the Amazonas Secretary of Public Security (SSP-AM), together with the Department of Interior Police (DPI), of the Amazonas Civil Police (PC-AM).

Expert uses luminol

According to DPTC, the expert is making use of luminol, with which the teams investigate the possibility of the existence of traces of biological samples and fingerprints left on the boat, both by the suspect and the crew or anyone who may have passed by the boat.

The Crisis Committee also informs that the results of the investigations, including the forensics report, will be released in due course.

Dangerous Suspect

Although the latest official statement of the Federal Police is that there is still no evidence to believe that the suspect is involved in the disappearance of the couple, there are reports of a witness considered key saying that he saw Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, Pelado, carrying a rifle and making a belt of ammunition and cartridges shortly after the indigenist Bruno Pereira and the British journalist Dom Phillips left the São Rafael Community heading to Atalaia do Norte, on the morning of last Sunday, 5.
