MANAUS (AM) – On August 18, the city of Tefé (522 km away from Manaus) will have a free workshop focused on “Cinematography”. The place is chosen by the amazonian filmmaker Z Leão for the return of the activities focused on local cinema. There will be four days of classes with the objective of improving the cinema by offering technical knowledge to local audiovisual professionals and university students.

According to Z Leão, the classes will be divided in two groups of 30 people. “The goal is to improve what has already been done in recent years. The city has been making several short films and even a feature film through the Cinema and Identity Project. Those interested can contact me through the social network Facebook, where I can ask questions about registration,” says the filmmaker.

Besides the theoretical classes, the course will also have practical lessons and, at the end, according to the director Z Leão, short films will be produced by the course participants. The filmmaker explains that because of the pandemic the number of seats has been reduced for the safety of the students.

“To follow all Covid-19 health protocols, the face-to-face classes will be for an audience of 15 students per class, to comply with the distance. The course will take place at the UEA Tefé Campus, which is a partner. In safety, everyone will be able to put into practice the points covered in the prepared classes and will take away the largest possible amount of doubts”, emphasizes Z Leão.

Another program announced by the filmmaker is the 3rd edition of the “Cabocão Cine Festival”, a film festival focused only on films produced within the State of Amazonas. The event, according to Leão, will take place in the city of Itacoatiara (175 km from Manaus), in the first half of November.

The cultural initiative is in partnership with the city hall and the production company Pekena Filmes, which will hold cinema workshops in several cities of Amazonas, such as Barcelos, Anori, Codajás, Tefé, Manacapuru, and the event’s headquarters, Itacoatiara.

“In all, there will be 14 workshops that will bring the knowledge of the seventh art to more than 300 future caboclo filmmakers. An average of 40 short films will be produced by the students of the workshops, who will act as directors, screenwriters, actors, actresses, continuists, producers, and cameras of their own films. For all this I count on the support of coordinator Priscilla Peixoto and producer Claudilene Siqueira,” says Z Leão.

The films participated in a selection process to choose the shorts that will be screened at the festival. He also reveals that this year the 3°Cabocão Cine Festival will award in several categories such as: best film, best script, best direction, best actor and best actress.

Besides being shown in Itacoatiara at state and municipal schools and in cultural spaces, the “Cabocão Cine Festival” will also be shown on the Amazon Sat channel, TV Encontro das Águas, on TV Ufam and online, on the Cine Cabocão channel on YouTube.
