MANAUS – The Association of Transvestites, Transsexuals and Transgenders of the State of Amazonas (Assotram) will promote this Friday, 5, a round of conversation about self-knowledge, beyond the standards, entitled “October and November Transcending the Pink and Blue”. The event starts at 13:30 in the auditorium of the Polyclinic of Codajás, Assotram’s partner health unit located on Codajás Avenue, Cachoeirinha, South zone of Manaus.

According to the president of Assotram, Joyce Gomes, during the program themes related to prevention, early diagnosis and several information about breast cancer, cervical cancer and prostate and rectal cancer will be discussed. “The initiative arose from the need to work on this issue within the LGBTQIA+ community, a way to inform and raise awareness”, says Joyce.

Joyce highlights that the action, besides informing, brings representativeness to people from the community who have doubts about the subject or, even, are going through similar health problems. “Pink October and Blue November are two major campaigns focused on health and we realized that we didn’t feel represented, so we took this demand to the WFP, which superceded the proposal”, explains the president.

About the event

Due to the security guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), the program has a reduced public participation and limited vacancies. “We are still following the guidelines that preserve our safety, so we invited only a few institutions and the seats in the auditorium will be available until what was stipulated by the organization who is interested can contact us by our insta @assotram or get information at PAM Codajás”, says Joyce.

The conversation mediated by doctoral student in History at the Federal University of Amazonas (Ufam) and member of the Center for Policies, Institutions and Social Practices (Polis) of the Laboratory of Gender Studies, Michele Pires will have as guest the professor of the State University of Amazonas (UEA), gynecologist and obstetrician and specialist in human reproduction, Dária Neves.

Dária is also the coordinator of the Sexual and Gender Diversity Clinic at the Codajás Polyclinic and will focus on diversity issues. The medical oncologist Caroline do Anjos, the master in health science, specialist in male infertility and coordinator of the urology discipline of Ufam, Flavio Antunes and mastologist from the hospital of clinics of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Erica Conde will also be guests of the event.

“Besides that, we will have the participation of the coloproctologist, member of the Brazilian Society of Coloproctology and member of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Study Group, Raul Costa”, says Joyce Gomes who points out that Assotram’s agenda is slowly getting back to normal and, according to the president, in December there will be an intensive program in favor of “Red December”, a period that marks the national mobilization in the fight against HIV, Aids and sexually transmitted infections (STI) alerting to prevention, assistance and protection of the rights of people infected with the virus.
