MANAUS – With evaluation of equipment and collection systems, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) began on Thursday, 4, the test for the Demographic Census 2022 in 26 states and the Federal District. In Amazonas, the place chosen for the work was the riverside community Novo Remanso, in Itacoatiara (175 kilometers from Manaus).

According to the head of IBGE in Amazonas, Ilcleson Mendes, the people who cannot do the interview can schedule it for another time. “We are going to go through the whole month of November and the beginning of December in the area of Novo Remanso and census all the households. The census takers will knock on every door and, when they find the resident, they will do the interview”, he explained.

“If the resident cannot do the interview at that time when the census takers are on site, he will have the option to do this interview by scheduling at another time in person, or schedule to do it by phone, or even do it over the Internet”, said Ilcleson.

The head of IBGE also pointed out that the entire structure that is being designed for the Census in 2022 will be taken to the field. “We are going to test our systems, our equipment, and we are going to apply this test in all the stages of the Census Operation, from the training of the teams, to the urban team of the surroundings, in which we verify if they have paving, if they have asphalt, and especially if they have accessibility”, he said.

Novo Remanso

Ilcleson explains that all the states chose a place to perform the test. “We chose Novo Remanso, because it passed the criteria that were established for performing the work, and also because of the characteristics that resemble the characteristics of the countryside in general. It is an urbanized area, has a certain urban infrastructure, and a point that is extremely important for us to test the quality of the internet services. We could try to do it in a place closer to Manaus, because we know that the internet works much better close to the capital of Amazonas, but this is very restricted to Manaus and in the countryside we know that this is different”, he said.

Structure

In all, 20 people will be working directly in the Census test that will be done in Novo Remanso, aiming to provide experience to these servers that will also work in the Demographic Census of 2022. The test carried out at the end of 2021 will meet the health security protocols, with 13 census takers who will collect the data. Ilcleson also points out that the test is valid to observe details for next year’s Census.

“The test will be fundamental to test all the technology and systems that are being thought for the Census, but, not only that: it will also be fundamental for us to test our team, the performance, the communication, the team management, the integration, and, in a way, also test our planning for the Census next year”, explained Ilcleson.

IBGEeduca

The IBGE’s State Units have mobilized local communities, where information about IBGEeduca is being distributed to students and teachers to alert them about the importance of the census operation for Brazil and the performance of the tests, as well as to assist the enumerators who will be going to their homes to answer the survey.

“In addition, the school space is also a place of circulation for parents and guardians. We distribute posters in the schools to promote the Census among families. These materials bring information about the country, the municipality, and about IBGE itself, thus strengthening the institution’s image as an official source of information about the country”, explains Renata Corrêa, IBGE’s manager of Educational Issues.
