MANAUS – The LabVerde artistic immersion project opens registration on Wednesday, 22, for musicians, instrumentalists, DJs, VJs, sound artists, slam and visual artists who reside in one of the nine states that make up the Amazon region (Amazonas, Acre, Rondonia, Roraima, Pará, Maranhão, Amapá, Tocantins and Mato Grosso) to stay ten days experiencing sound experimentation in the Amazon rainforest.
The deadline for registration is July 17, through Labverde’s website www.labverde.com. According to Lilian Fraiji, director of the transdisciplinary platform based in the Brazilian Amazon, focused on developing artistic languages about the environment, in this first edition of the immersion project, the initiative seeks to expose the artists to the most different musical and visual experimentations.
“Labverde has existed for nine years and this is the first time we will have a residence with only artists from the Amazon and focused on experimentation in the area of music”, says the director, emphasizing that the immersion will provide a connection between nature and the artists.
“There is a gigantic acoustic potential in the Amazon, which involves the oral and sonorous culture of the people, the sound of environmental phenomena, and also the distinct vocalizations of the fauna in the forest. Being immersed in such a rich environment and with the mediation of a team of specialists will be triggers for the creation of new works in the area of sound and music for the Amazon”, he explains.
Logistics
In all, there will be ten selected artists who will do a ten-day artistic residence, from September 22nd to October 1st, in forest reserves and communities of the lower Negro River. The artists who are selected will receive airfare, food, training in art and ecology, and accommodation on a boat and in the city of Manaus, all funded by the project, which is intended exclusively for artists who develop their own work with at least five years of experience.
The residency also includes a series of discussions, workshops, lectures, and artistic presentations to deepen their knowledge of the sociobiological diversity of the Amazon. According to the project, the artists will be selected by a committee of professionals.
After this immersion, the participants will have one month to deliver a final work about the issues discussed during the residence, which will be available both in the Labverde networks and in Se Rasgum Produções, a project partner.
“Music proposes relevant debates that positively impact the construction of a better world. We believe that the projects selected by Natura Musical can contribute to the construction of a more beautiful future, increasingly plural, inclusive and sustainable”, says Fernanda Paiva, Head of Global Cultural Branding.
The Labsonora residence is the beginning of a series of cultural actions, the result of a partnership between Labverde and Se Rasgum Produções, which includes online artistic orientations and the realization of a festival, in Manaus, on December 16 and 17, 2022.
