MANAUS – The ‘Manaus City Literary Awards’, literature contest that encourages, recognizes and awards, in cash, writing professionals, not only from the Amazon but from all over Brazil, continues with open registration for the 2022 edition. The deadline, to those who want to register to participate in the award, closes on Monday, 25, and must be virtual and free on the site https://concultura.manaus.am.gov.br/premio-literario.

According to information from the Municipal Council of Culture (Concultura), until this Tuesday, 19, more than 300 registrations have already been made. In the last edition held in 2021, there were 701 registrations in all. “The writers need to be aware of the deadline that is closing. In the last week, there is always a very large number of people registered from all over the country, and the numbers are surprising,” says the president of Concultura, Tenório Telles.

Categories

With some changes and mergers of categories. Because of the change, the award, which used to have twenty categories, now has nine. According to Concultura, the reason for the change “is that certain categories had been lacking entries, besides the fact that six of them had no winners in the last edition”.

The award covers novels, short stories and chronicles, poetry, essays, memory and literary journalism, children’s and teenage literature, theater and regional literature, and essays on popular traditions. One of the novelties is the appearance of the regional category entitled “Djalma Batista Award”, aimed at the best text with an Amazonian theme.

The winners of the following national categories (Álvaro Maia Award, Arthur Engrácio Award, Violeta Branca Menescal Award, Samuel Benchimol Award, Áureo Nonato Award, Alfredo Fernandes Award, Álvaro Braga Award) will take home the sum of R$ 5 thousand. At the regional level (Mario Ypiranga Monteiro and Djalma Batista Awards), the prize value is R$ 3 thousand.
