BELÉM – The Electoral Public Ministry of Pará (MPE-PA) asked the removal of the current mayor of the city of Abel Figueiredo (distant 572 kilometers from Belém), Antonio dos Santos Calhau (PL), the vice Evandro Oliveira Santos (PSB), and the former mayoral candidate, Adeilson Ataide Mateus (PSDB), for the crimes of illegal capture of votes and abuse of economic power during the 2020 election campaign.

The final ruling was issued last week by prosecutor Lorena de Albuquerque Rangel Moreira Cruz, from the 51st Electoral Zone. However, the initial lawsuit was filed in court by Hidelfonso de Abreu and Osciezia Rodrigues dos Santos, who filed the complaint on December 14, 2020.

According to the denunciation, on November 14, 2020, on President Lula street, in the Nova Brasília neighborhood, in Abel Figueiredo, around 2 pm, one of the electoral zones caught Evandro Oliveira Santos, candidate for vice-mayor-elect of Abel Figueiredo, practicing the electoral crime of buying votes. The prosecutor analyzed videos and photos that would prove the electoral crime. After the finding, the MP Electoral requested the removal of Calhau from office.

In the initial action, with the Electoral MP, the ineligibility of the accused were requested, as well as the annulment of the candidacy records or the graduation of the mayor elected and sworn in. The initial action requires the Justice to declare the ineligibility of the defendants, as well as the cancellation of the diploma of the mayor and vice-mayor of Abel Figueiredo.

The mayor of Abel Figueiredo was contacted by the CENARIUM team, through the e-mail of the communications office of the city hall and the phone number 5467, however, until the closing of this report, there was no return.

Mayor Antônio dos Santos Calhau is 40 years old, married, declared to the TSE that he is a veterinarian, and has completed college education. He has a declared patrimony of R$783,855.24. Vice Evandro da Serraria (Evandro Oliveira Santos), from PSB, is 49 years old, married, declared to the TSE as a councilman, and has completed college education. He has a declared estate of R$ 223,069.50. When he was elected, Antônio Calhau had 50.88% of the voters’ choice. There were 2,329 votes in total.
