MANAUS – The Committee on Economic Development, Industry, Trade and Services (Cdeics) of the Federal House, approved on Wednesday, 4, requirements that request the appearance of the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, to deal with the Manaus Free Trade Zone on June 1, in the Federal House.

The authors’ request, converted into an invitation, asks Paulo Guedes to provide clarification on the decrees of the federal government that reduced the Tax on Industrialized Products (IPI) for the entire country, as well as the one that zeroed these rates to the Concentrate Pole, and that directly affect the comparative advantages of companies located in the Manaus Free Trade Zone (MFTZ).

However, the federal lawmaker for Amazonas José Ricardo (PT) said that if the minister is absent from the requested meeting, other summoning requests will be filed in the Committee on Industry and Trade.

“President Bolsonaro and his Minister of Economy owe explanations to the population of Amazonas. With this approved request, we will deal with the Manaus Free Trade Zone and the damage that is being caused by the federal government’s measures that reduce the IPI rates throughout the country, without exempting all the products of our industrial hub”, said the congressman.

The congressman defends that this is the time for the business sector workers and society to express their discontent with the losses that the industrial hub may suffer. “We are looking for all the ways and actions to fight against the attacks to the Manaus Free Trade Zone. I will fight to stop this measure that affects the Concentrates Complex, as well as the IPI reduction decree for the entire country,” he concluded.
