MANAUS – The legal prosecutor of Univaja, Eliésio Marubo, mentioned in live by the social network Instagram, on the evening of Wednesday, 15, that a third suspect for the disappearance of the indigenist Bruno Pereira and the British journalist Dominic Phillips was arrested, but that he has no knowledge of the suspect’s name.

The investigations are still under judicial secrecy. However, the superintendent of the Federal Police of Amazonas (PF-AM), Eduardo Alexandre Fontes, said in a conversation with AMAZON AGENCY that no other suspects have been arrested.

“We are in search of other suspects who we are sure participated in the criminal event. We have two more suspects being investigated, but we haven’t arrested anyone”, he said, while pointing out that Univaja’s information does not hold water.

In a moment before the prosecutor’s statement, Fontes informed, in a press conference still on Wednesday night, 15, that there are strong indications about the executors to be confirmed, and that “more arrests may happen soon”, but so far only Amarildo da Costa de Oliveira, known as “Pelado”, who confessed to the murder, and his brother, Oseney da Costa de Oliveira, are arrested for participation in the crime.

Investigation of the case

During the press conference, the superintendent said that “Pelado”, arrested since last week, collaborated with the reconstitution of the crime, indicated where he had buried the bodies and where the boat of the two had sunk. At the site, “human remains” were found, and he added that only an expert examination could clarify the real cause of death of the victims.

The Federal Police did not inform how the murder of the indigenous activist and the british journalist was planned. Although “Pelado” has admitted participation in the crime, it is unclear whether there is a mastermind. The investigations are under judicial secrecy. In the interview, he limited himself to saying that there was a “clash” with a “firearm shot”.
